Collagen Induction Therapy
Collagen Induction Therapy
Collagen induction therapy, commonly known as fibroblasting, is a recent natural innovation to achieve fresh and youthful-looking skin. Like many other treatments available, it aims to stimulate the body’s own collagen production to reduce the appearance of fine lines & wrinkles, stretch marks, skin laxity and scarring from acne or chicken pox. It also stimulates new hair regrowth. Unlike intense pulsed light (IPL) and laser, collagen induction therapy is much quicker to heal and also avoids some of the many side effects of other treatment methods, such as burns, blisters, long down time and hyperpigmentation. Collagen induction therapy is combined with Fibroblast Growth Factor to get the best results.
What is Fibroblast Growth Factor?
Fibroblast Growth Factors are naturally occurring molecules in our skin. They bind to receptors on the cells surface, stimulating cell and tissue function by changing their biochemical activity and cellar growth, proliferation and healing. The 98% Fibroblast Growth Factor used at our clinic increases skin repair by over 1,000 times the normal rate of repair!
What is involved in the procedure?
The skin is cleansed and a 98% Fibroblast Growth Factor & Hyalouronic acid serum is applied one section at a time. This promotes fibroblast proliferation, wound healing and angiogenesis. Then a medical grade nano tip pen is moved over the skin to be treated to introduce a series of fine, sharp micro channels in the skin. Use of the medical grade pen allows the growth factor serum to be delivered directly to the dermis. This allows the Fibroblast Growth Factor Serum to be absorbed much more effectively.
Approximately 5 days after your treatment, new collagen and elastin is laid down by fibroblasts. The process is vastly increased by the Fibroblast Growth Factor which stimulates the cells to undergo mitosis (make new cells). Collagen type 3 (juvenile collagen) is then replaced by collagen type 1 (mature collagen) which gradually increases the tensile strength (elasticity) of the tissue. The collagen fibres are well organised, forming a strong bond between them. This phase continues for several months to years.
Neocollagenesis, or production of collagen, following the treatment leads to the reduction of scars and assists in skin rejuvenation-thicker, plumper and more youthful skin. It also improves skin texture, firmness and hydration. The procedure is ideal for use on the face, stretch marks, acne scars or surgical scars.
What does the Ultra-Pen treat?
- Fine lines, wrinkles and loss of elasticity
- UV (sun) damaged skin
- Pigmentation or melasma
- Skin clarity and skin tone
- Rosacea and revascularisation
- Large pores
- Scarring: Acne, surgical scars, keloid scars, burn scars
- Stretch marks
- If you would like softer, younger looking skin
Is the treatment painful?
Most people do not find the treatment painful. The sensation of the treatment is often described as gently running a bristly brush over the skin.
Is there any down time?
No, you may go straight to work after your treatment. In most people, the skin will be a slightly pink for 15 minutes up to 24 hours. In some people it can last 48 hours. Most people describe the feeling like a mild sunburn-pink, slightly sensitive and some may have a little swelling. You will be given advice on how to reduce downtime after your treatments.
What skin types can be treated?
All skin types can be treated, including sensitive skin and skin types that overreact to heat based (laser, intense pulsed light and radiofrequency) treatments. Unlike laser, it is not skin colour sensitive, so all skin colours may be treated.
Who can’t be treated?
Clients who can’t be treated include anyone who has bleeding disorders, active acne, active rosacea, scleroderma, skin cancer, neuromuscular disease, has active infections in the area to be treated, is taking anticoagulant medication or is pregnant or breastfeeding .
When will I see results?
Results are seen within the first few weeks after the treatment. You will notice a ‘glow’ with visible changes continuing to develop. Most significant results are seen in 6 to 8 weeks, however this will continue to improve within the following 5 months and with consecutive treatments.
How many treatments do I need?
Most people require 3 treatments spaced about 4 weeks apart. If you are older and have deeper wrinkles with sun damage/photo ageing, stretch marks or acne/surgical scars will require 6 to 10 treatments spaced one week apart. You will be advised at the consultation.
